Yesterday Grief, Today Mischief

Gratitude for the extremes

Our moods can feel like prisons — grief, scarcity, rejection, emptiness. But they always pass, and when they do, something new arrives: mischief, lightness, curiosity. This piece is about honoring emotional extremes as teachers instead of fighting them.

Yesterday even the morning light felt heavy.
Today rejection feels like a fading cloud in a bright sky.
Yesterday the emptiness felt thick and suffocating.
Today even scarcity feels like a blessing,
And loss feels liberating.

Isn’t it wild
how absorbing these emotional states can be?
If only we could honor them for their depth and
remember that they will pass,
We would consider it such a blessing
to feel the extremes with full intensity!

When life drips sour like lemon juice into your eye,
delight in the sting — it's only there to teach you something important.

When your heart bursts with unfulfilled desire,
marvel at your capacity to hold it, the gift is in the draw not in release.

When grief contorts your face,
celebrate the transformation it brings.

When success falls into your lap,
don’t claim it —
share it with the world that conspired to give it.

When synchronicity blows your mind,
soak in the love of the universe —
keep your heart open for the next time.

When curiosity reaches for your essence,
let your armor fall,
show your colors.

When the weight of responsibility bends your knees,
breathe, adjust the load,
keep walking.

When blame comes your way,
walk away —
another’s hurt is not yours to carry.

If it could be so easy,
We could have it all.
Depth and shallowness.
Seriousness and silliness.
Pain and joy.
Shattering and integrating.
Exertion and rest.
Grief and mischief.

Delight in the change of seasons.
Savor the storm and the stillness.
