The Underwhelming End of Urgency

Nothing Dramatic is Happening

transformation

Going from:
can you explain this so I can feel safe,
to:
I'm safe. Please stop talking.

Being content with the fact that
Not everything needs to be said
But what is said
needs to be said well.

Healing doesn't crescendo,
It settles.
Not by arriving
But by not needing to arrive any more.

Not by breaking through some threshold,
But by not needing another threshold:
I used to push the limits,
Now they expand on their own.

Intensity is no longer appealing.
Compassion no longer leaks into others' wounds.
I rest into growth,
I don't need to chase it.

I used to dissociate,
Now I'm present for the disappointment.
The better you get at staying,
the more you notice how often you used to leave.

Grief is soft and rewarding.
Connection is no longer worth
The price of self betrayal.
Ordinary things are satisfying.

The work now is mostly
Not interrupting.
The body doesn't ask for more,
It exhales.
