A Shard
A Shattering Suggestion
Do you ever wonder
what it's like
to be transparent
in a world with no reflections?
Where every rock and creature,
every leaf
greedily absorbs
all the light that they can get.
Whether you're made of glass
or cellophane
or diamond
doesn't matter.
Because you'll never know.
Because you'll never see
your own reflection anywhere.
The light shines through you
and you cast no shadow.
Good luck assembling
a mirror out of rocks.
Good luck discovering
your nature.
And maybe sometimes
there's a shard
a fragment
that sprays back
the light that it received.
A treasure!
A moment of reflected truth
a glimpse of your own shape,
not a full view
just one tiny piece of puzzle,
not the entire picture
but enough to get
a shattering suggestion
that you have also been
a mirror all along.
