Building a Bridge

There are bridges

family

There are bridges
of different lengths.
It depends on the distance
you're trying to connect across.

A distance to yourself
may take years
and even decades to build across.
Yet it's one of the shortest ones out there.

A distance to another person
who's willing to meet you in the middle
is even greater.
Mostly because first
you must both build a bridge to yourselves.

A distance to a person
who's not likely to meet you in the middle
is far greater than that
but it's not the longest one out there.

The longest distance is one to another's potential,
not who they are now
but who they could be
if your bridge could reach them.

That's the bridge
most challenging to build.
And most of the time
it's not worth building.
