The Practice of Possibility

No Guarantees

transformation

Participating in possibility is very different
than expecting guarantees.

There are a lot more possibilities
than there are guarantees.

Guarantees get crowded.
Possibilities stay somewhat abandoned.

It can be a lonely road to pursue a possibility.
And a long one.

Plenty of opportunities to turn around.
Distract with something more assured.

But here’s the trick.
It’s not the possibility finally working out that makes it worth it.

It’s the kind of person you become pursuing it.

Going after guarantees takes effort and control.
Going after possibilities takes faith and surrender.

They are different kinds of strength.

One is built to exert.
The other is built to last.

One is fragile.
The other one is cumulative.

One needs the world to promise something.
The other meets the world as it is.

One asks reality to cooperate.
The other cooperates with it.

One waits for confidence.
The other builds it.

One asks, “Will it work?”
The other asks, “Is it alive?”
