The “Heart” Beat
Receiving Complexity
We say the heart pumps blood.
What an impoverished oversimplification.
Like saying that humans produce work.
Your world is only as large as the descriptions
you accept as truth.
Reality is always more complex and beautiful.
What about the vortex reducing the friction
by keeping the hard contents like cells
in the center of the arteries
and away from fragile walls?
What about the neurons responding to distant echoes
reverberating through the living network
of vessels tens of thousands of miles long?
Mapping and adjusting without pause.
What about the trillions of cells
opening together in synchrony,
drawing nourishment inward?
As if they were all taking a breath together.
The entire body pulses,
not just he heart.
Imagine all of humanity, billions of people
taking a breath at the same time.
Together as one.
One organism in complete harmony.
And that’s the miracle that happens
every second of our lives in our bodies.
Without failing. Without tiring. Without drifting.
Every cell keeps the beat.
How is that even possible?
How do they know when?
How can they stay so completely in sync?
Perhaps they don’t.
Perhaps it’s their synchrony that gives birth
to the illusion of time itself.
Maybe synchronicity is fundamental in this world?
Maybe if we look a little deeper we will see it...
The body doesn't thrive because
one part gives while another takes.
It thrives because everything takes part
in receiving and giving simultaneously.
One doesn't have to join the party,
only to notice that they have always been
a part of it.
