The Slowness of the Heart
A Practice in Becoming
It’s not the dramatic breakthroughs
that bring about excellence.
It’s the barely perceptible shift
repeated hundreds of times
until something that once felt impossible
becomes ordinary.
It’s not the insight
flashing up the room like lightning
that changes consciousness.
It’s the quiet insistence
to keep paying attention
to what’s easy to ignore
until you start seeing
what was always there.
It’s not the burst of will
that lifts the heaviest weight.
It’s doing the simple things
again and again without losing attention,
until effort fades and only
strength remains.
It’s not extraordinary luxury
that creates joy.
It’s staying
for a moment longer
with something small
you would usually rush past.
It's not the perfect plan
that creates momentum.
It's starting before you're ready
and continuing to adjust as you go
that carries you forward.
It's not the big decisions
that shape your path,
It's the ones you make
without even noticing.
It's not controlling everything
that brings stability.
It's letting most things
be as they are.
It's not being understood
that creates closeness.
It's staying
when you're not.
It's not the right words
that matter.
It's the willingness to say
the important things
imperfectly.
It’s not intensity
that changes a life.
It’s the slow work of the heart
learning
how not to turn away.
