Melatonin Regrettably
Don’t Chase the Night Away
“The day is my enemy, the night is my friend.”
-The Prodigy
There is no mystery why you lie awake at night.
It’s just that the answer is not one you like to hear.
It’s because you neglect yourself during the day.
And the night is the only safe time
For your inner child to voice their grievances.
And what do you do with that?
You think something is wrong with them.
You try to trick yourself, force yourself, medicate yourself to sleep.
Do you really think you can win this game of tag
Against yourself?
You don’t have a sleep problem.
You have a self-neglect problem.
And the good news is that it’s not a problem.
It’s your life knocking on your door
Asking you to live it.
So you got two things to work on: day and night.
Stay connected to yourself throughout the day.
Hold your inner child and listen to them at night.
That’s the practice: presence and connection.
The two things you are craving and depriving yourself of.
The two things that are essential to life.
Are life.
That you are avoiding, running from, hiding from.
For the sake of what? Survival?
What’s survival for if it costs you your life?
When you can finally sit with the restlessness,
It will reveal what you’ve been missing.
And when it’s been listened to,
The restlessness will soften,
And inspiration will take its place.
You don’t have to solve anything tonight.
You don’t have to achieve or resolve anything.
Just stop running and let yourself be tagged.
Sleep will come when the chase is over.
